How long between "sent" and "post" ?

According to WMR, IRS "sent" my refund on June 18th (59 days after it was accepted, but that's another story). However, I still (as of the 20th) haven't seen it posted in my bank account.

Naturally, I'm curious about that. After the day IRS "sends" the money, when does it actually "post" to the account? When can I use it, in other words.

I assumed electronic transfer is immediate, and I wondered why instructions including another date was necessary. "Call your bank if by..." didn't make sense when I first saw it because I understood with e-transmission of money, the "sent" times and "received" times shouldn't be different by much. But now I realize there may be a serious difference between the two.

So, if the IRS sent my refund on the 18th, when will it post to my account?

I double checked everything. I used the correct routing and checking account numbers.

When the deposit posts to your account depends entirely on your bank. Some banks take longer than others. That's why the IRS tells you to wait several days before checking with your bank. Call your bank and ask them.

FWIW I just checked my refund. It was "sent" Apr 2, and deposited into my Wells Fargo acct on same day ! But I have seen other direct deposits take 1 or 2 days to be credited.

Two days for me would be today, and it's not posted yet. But I suppose I can take heart in that since 2 have already passed, it shouldn't be much longer. My "bank" is GE Capital Retail Bank, which is the one behind the Walmart MoneyCard. I already spent all my emergency cash expecting on getting the refund yesterday, but I'll live. I'm beginning to believe there is something fundamentally wrong with the refund/tax system.

refund/tax system.

If it was a large refund you can fix the problem by adjusting your withholding. Use the worksheets on the W-4 to see how many allowances you should be claiming.

As Bob Sandler said, "Call your bank and ask them."

I called my "bank", which is is GE Capital Retail Bank, AKA the Wallmart MoneyCard bank, and the foreign-accent said "we are only the receivers." She said I needed a tracking number to look into things further. But why does the IRS site give 2 dates, sent on such and such (the 18th for me), and when to call the bank, 5 days later: "If your refund is not credited to your account by June 23, 2013, check with your bank to find out if it has been received. "

Shouldn't it be received on the day sent? What happens between the 18th and the

23rd?

-- -- I wrote the above a couple of days ago, but the post was rejected because I top posted. In any case, there are some new developments.

Now, when I go to the WMR site, the result has reverted back to the "processing" screen, which many of you are familiar. I already was able to get the "sent" screen:

formatting link
(I smudged the id, mod). And, of course, nothing has been deposited in my account.

So does anybody have any idea of what is going on? If the IRS produced the "approved" and the "sent" bar-graph screens, why has it now reverted back to the "processing" screen?

It doesn't seem the bank is the culprit. I suppose I should call IRS. Any recommendations on that?

They give two dates because the IRS doesn't know how long the bank takes to credit it to your account. Different banks take different amounts of time. Once the IRS sends the deposit, it's out of their hands. The IRS is suggesting that after 5 days, most banks should have credited it.

Ask the bank.

"approved" and the "sent" bar-graph screens, why has it now reverted back to the "processing" screen?

Only the IRS can answer those questions.

recommendations on that?

Yes, call the IRS.

Not always, and mostly probably never on the same say.

We wire money all the time and it takes a few days to appear in the receivers account. Likewise the direct deposit system takes longer than "same day". In fact nothing with banking transactions are instant.

And you had the weekend in there, which may add to the mix.

OK, my next step is to call the IRS. But does anybody have an explanation or theory why the WMR screen for me has reverted back to the "processing" condition? How can it go backwards?

At this point, it's been 7 calendar days since I first got the "sent" bargraph on WMR (now gone). Still nothing at the bank. I could call them again, but I suspect they will say something like they said last time, which was that I need a tracking number from the IRS and don't bug us; we are just the receiver.

I don't know how to research this, but there must be some rule somewhere regarding how long a bank and sit on a deposit before they tell the customer that it's there. But again, I suspect the bank would post the (so-called) direct deposit quickly. If the delay were common on a banking operation this large, I think the public outrage would have been heard. I've had many direct deposits or wires in my life and the worst, i.e., longest, was next day.
