Laser therapy device tax deductible?

Jul 14, 2013 3 Replies

I have been getting cold laser treatments from my chiropractor. They are not covered by insurance but they are tax deductible.

I decided to buy my own device. It's not as strong as my chiro's or as expensive (his $12000, mine $800). I wondered if it would be a tax deductible health expense?

thanks

Jane

I vote that it is, as it is a chiropractice device.

Should I get a letter of necessity from my doctor? Is a letter from a chiro sufficient?

I don't think that it is necessary to get a letter. But it might be a good idea to do so: make sure the letter says that this medical device is needed for the treatment of XYZ (the specific ailment that you have), and that it is signed by the doctor.
