Medical Deduction For Lawn Mowing Service?

After surgery, the surgeon told me I could not use my lawn tractor to mow my lawn for this year. As a result, I hired a lawn mowing service for 2008. Hopefully, in 2009 I'll be allowed to use the tractor again.

I would think that the expense of the lawn mowing service is not deductible in 2008 but I thought I would check the experts in this NG just in case you all thought it might be allowable.

TIA for your help.

This falls into the category of "nice try". A medical event can prevent me from doing a lot of things, but most of them would not be a write-off. Yard work is one.

I may be an expert in some domains, but it taxation ain't one of them (neither is grammar). However, I can give you reasonable assurance that home maintenance is a undeductible personal expense.

OTOH: If you live near Ball-a-mer (the city that slurs), I'd be willing to rent your lawn tractor to help to offset your costs. But the seat has to be an extra large with a seat belt. Also the rental income would be taxable to you.

Would he get to depreciate the lawn tractor, to cover the rental income?

Thanks. I thought that would be the case but just wanted to be sure.

Don't think the NJ Turnpike will let me on there with a lawn tractor so I couldn't deliver it to you
