Medical Expense, trip to visit a parent in the Hospital

Can the travel expense be deducted to visit an ill parent in the hospital ? We live in Colorado and my mother-in-law is in Tucson Arizona. My wife made the trip twice via airlines and we drove once. It can be documented that my mother-in-law was guest at the facility.

You describe non-deductible personal expenses.

About the only way I can contrive your having a deductible expense is if you are responsible for you mother-in-law's health care. Even then you need expenses greater than

7.5% of AGI (adjusted gross income) to make a dollar value impact on your return.
