My Husband is now a U.S. Resident, we want to file jointly and need advice!

Hi, I am new to this group..

My husband and I were married in June 2010, and he received his Green card in 2010 as well.

Last year for 2009 he filed as a 'non-resident'.

According to the irs site, he can now file as a "US resident".

We want to file jointly as a married couple, and I am just wondering how to go about doing that? What forms are necessary? Can we e-file? Are there any other stipulations/rules to consider?

I would really appreciate some advice, I have been searching for clear cut answers for a while online, with little clarity. thanks! Caryn

Assuming you are a US Citizen or Green Card holder, and he has a SSN, (if he has an ITIN he should now get an SSN) I see no reason why you could not file jointly.

Forms? Form 1040 should work just fine.
