NYS Income Tax - out of state sales tax

Apr 02, 2012 2 Replies

I did my tax returns today. NYS requires you to pay sales tax on out of state purchases on your NYS tax return. Although I told him I had out of state purchases, my accountant entered that I didn't. He said that no one pays the tax, that state knows it and doesn't care. He said that he does that for all his clients, regardless of what they tell him.

Is that proper, or should I start looking for a new accountant?

You know the answer to whether it's proper. Otherwise, you wouldn't be asking. Whether you should look for a new accountant is a different question - one no one can answer for you.
