Question about unemployment benifits for relocating.

I plan on moving to North Carolina from Ohio. My plan is to find work there and find an apartment but I do not have a base of operations there while I find a job e.g. any friends or relatives to stay with, etc. My funds are very limited. Traveling to and from NC just for job interviews while being able to hold my job here is out of the question due to travel expenses and and my work schedule. A co-worker here in Ohio told me that if I quit my job and moved to NC that Ohio would pay unemployment benifits and this would be a just cause since I was trying to better myself. I have never heard of this. I have held my current job for four years and have never received unemployment and I know little about it except I thought you would have to have a reason such as your job being too hazardous or you being discriminated against, etc. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Thanks in advance.

The reason you have never heard of this is that it's not true. Quitting your job to look for a better one elsewhere is not just cause, and you will not be eligible for unemployment compensation.

On the other hand, if you tell them you're looking for another job and they fire you, then you are eligible. Seth
