Roth distributions after conversion from traditional

Jan 14, 2017 0 Replies

I've been reading Pub 590-B, and I'd just like to make sure I'm reading it correctly.

I'm currently in my mid-60s, several years away from both 59½ and

70½. I'm still working. I opened my Roth on April 2016 for the 2015 tax year, with contributions of new money, not any kind of rollover or conversion. But now I'm thinking of converting part of my traditional IRA, before I start taking Social Security benefits.

As I read

it seems to me distributions from the Roth after 1 Jan 2020 are completely tax and penalty free.

The text kinda-sorta sounds like that applies also to distributions of Roth money that was converted from traditional IRA money. Figure

2-1 uncompromisingly says it's all qualified distributions, since I'm past 59½. But I'd value a second opinion.

Have I got it right? Thanks!
