Tax Help for Disabled Veterans

Someone has asked about free tax preparation help for disabled veterans. I've found help from the National Disability Institute, and a program called VITA that helps too. But these are private organizations.

Is there a program through the IRS or otherwise through the federal government? I haven't been able to find anything, so I'm curious if anyone here knows about it.

Thanks.

The AARP Foundation's TaxAide volunteers must take IRS courses and pass certification. That partnership makes them the next best thing to official IRS tax-prep assistance (which doesn't exist, as far as I know). They also have access to a special phone number at the IRS when they run into a situation they can't handle.

He wants either a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) or TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) site. See

While not exclusively for veterans, he probably qualifies for one or both of these programs.
