UK - VAT on Poppy Wreaths

I have heard that, here in the UK, Value Added Tax is charged when purchasing wreaths of poppies to be laid during Remembrance Day ceremonies. Can anyone confirm this?

I have had to run over to England half a dozen times in the last couple of months, so I actually know the answer to this question. The VAT tax thing is a myth. The poppy program for Remembrance Day (We call it Veteran's Day) is run by the Royal British Legion, which is a charity. The rumor (or should I say rumour) was the dastardly EU was going to tax all the poppy sales to the tune of 30 million pounds or some other outrageous figure. As it turns out, English law being so close to our own (since that's where we got ours from) charities are not taxed on direct program income. When I was there on November 11, at 11:11 AM the whole country stopped for two minutes - quite an awesome sight. This story made for some good angry press against the bureacrats in Brussels, however.
