Bank account for small club/group

We're setting up what amounts to a club, but it's actually a small organisation to teach people to bell-ring. It won't be huge turn-over, no advertising budget, just one shoe-string. We want to open a bank account (or similar). I popped into Barclays (cos the 3 people who will be signatories all bank there so I thought it might make identity easier) and all they could do (having referred me to their call centre) was offer me the Small Business Startup pack with lots of revenue forecasts, capital requirements, product competitors, which is nowhere near our ball-park.

Can anyone recommend an organisation where it might be easy to open an account for our purposes.

Basic needs: pay money in & out, possibly internet banking, 3 signatories, cheque book, once we're set up, there will be few outgoings and about £40/month coming in.

TIA

Barclays (or used to) do 'Community' account for small charities, community groups, clubs and societies. Other banks like Lloyds TSB have "Treasurer's" account for similar groups. Most have free banking but place a limit on writing more than 10 cheques a month etc. They usually require a copy of club's constitution and resolution by management committee.

Avoiding dealing with the idiots who inhabit banks. If what they do seems to be stupid it's because they are stupid. You have to keep trying until you talk to someone who understands what you need. Lloyds TSB have a Treasurer's account but it may take talking to a few idiots before you can get through to someone who knows what they are talking about.

I have set up treasurers accounts with both the Nationwide and Portman building societies in the past.

We could not at the time have access to Internet banking because we wanted 2 signatures to authorise a withdrawal but this was a few years back now so that one may have been cracked.

Couldn't you still have internet banking usage without withdrawal facilities online?

That wouldn't be 'banking on line' though as you wouldn't be able to perform transactions. It would just be an ability to see the statement.
