Barclaycard Freedom

Barclaycard keep publicising the places where customers can earn "Reward Money" under their Freedom scheme. But nowhere can I find where you can redeem (aka spend) this money.

I've earned nearly £4.50 already and was hoping to buy an Easter Egg. Is this possible, or am I right in presuming that no retailer anywhere in the country (let alone a confectioner) is actually prepared to redeem this "reward money"?

TIA

I recently paid for a meal by Barclaycard and on the receipt it stated I had

29p earned (1% of the bill) and 86p earned in total. The restaurant had no idea what it meant nor did I. I am sure that I did have the option to "spend it now" when I was entering my PIN, but I didn't as I was unsure what would happen. Maybe the restaurant would have got their full amount on the bill but BC would have deducted my 86p from the amount charged to them.

Thanks - I suspect the places where you "earn" the money don't pay anything (or maybe a disappearingly small amount) whereas the places which redeem have to pay a lot. Which is why nobody is redeeming the money.

Doubtless B'card will make its excuses and shut the scheme down soon.

I used to have a goldfish credit card which was taken over by barclaycard. The redemption values are in the form of gift vouchers ....ie M&S ... Argos... The full list is contained on the barclaycard website if you sign in..... There was a redempion points part. The only problem I remember was about the beginning of the year they dropped the redemption rate...in other words you had to spend more to get less!

They didn't just drop the redemption rate.

They introduced a 'double points' scheme for £2 a month.

Basically, they put you back where they were with an annual fee of £24.

Except...

.... they made a total mess of their example calculations.

In the end they offered to return you to the 'single point' scheme, refund the fees that had been paid, and allow you to keep the 'double points' that had been earned.

I suspect that many had the same gameplan as me - take the points and refund - and run.

Obviously, the one thing they have learned from their mistakes is how to make mistakes.

The way all these schemes work is that you only get a small amount of money off when purchasing from a "partner" who have high prices in the first place. "Redeem your points/money at the John Smith Emporium" only to find that you still have spend more than if you had shopped around and purchased the same goods elsewhere. 30% off a £100 case of wine of a standard that only cost £30 in your local supermarket etc.

Halifax have a Clarets card that gives you a £5 cashback every month you spend £300.Not a bad deal.
