Best current investment for tax payers

Scenario:

Investor has circa £300k to invest. What is the best interest rate return one could expect in a secure investment which would include capital growth on the initial investment?

Thanks.

The best thing to do would be to buy a company which owns property which will pay £20k rent per annum. :-)

Hmm, if you want income AND growth AND a secure environment then Buy some Gilts at less than par. You'll get a total yield to redemption of about 4.7% - 5% before tax.

That's what I thought. :)

The story is inevitably 'not that simple', but this illustration is close enough to provide an answer in any case.
