Can you haggle with a DCA?

Suppose a debtor had an old debt that they forgot about, £2,000 say. A DCA sends them a letter asking for payment. I reckon the DCA would get at least £100 of that.

So what would a DCAs answer be if the debtor offered to either settle the debt immediately for £1950 or refuse to pay anything at all until a judge awards a CCJ?

Would they accept that, still making a profit or would they put time and effort into going through with legal proceedings which would undoubtedly cost them a lot more than £50?

No, they'll be earning considerably more than £100. They probably bought the debt for less than half its original value, so their profit is over £1000 if they collect in full.

They'd bite your hand off to accept that. If offered it, they'd almost certainly settle for something between £500 and £1000. Start the negotiation low, and haggle hard.
