Domestic insurance policies: who is covered?

I have a Lloyds TSB household insurance policy that also covers personal items, cash etc. - and wonder, who is covered? I can't see anything in the documentation and I can't ring until the morning, so I wondered if anyone here might have a quick answer. Is it only the named policyholders, or all the members of the household, specifically my sons? Thanks.

Are the details not on the net?

Nothing detailed (AFAIK) - and neither the letter, certificate nor the policy document that comes with the policy says anything about this aspect either. Unlike most policies they appear to want to keep it simple, which means "call us". Except right not they're not there and my son is getting very anxious about how he's going to cope with the loss of what is for him, a substantial sum (£250).

It is *normally* the insured and any member of his/her/their family permanantly residing with them.

Each company/policy has its own definition of who is covered, but

*generally* all members of the policyholder's family/household who live at the same address. Sometimes the cover is extended to those children who live temporarily away from home, e.g. students. In your policy document, there's normally a list of definitions, in this case the 'Insured', that should answer your question.

Thanks to Peter and Alec. Strangely enough the policy letter and document do not state "We are..." "You are..." as in other policies I have. It's simple to the point of obscure.

What concerns me now is that the money was lost outside of the home, and while we have cover for personal possessions outside of the home, I don't think it covers cash. I'll have to phone in the morning.

(Background: My son lost his wallet in the cinema at the end of the night's showing. Next morning the wallet was under the seat but no cash. Only employees and a cleaning agency had been in. I suppose we will just have to right it off - the police won't want to get involved, and the cinema manager says there's nothing he can do. I just wondered if we might get some of the £250 back on insurance - though WHY he was carrying that amount around with him is anyone's guess. Happy Christmas to Someone... )

Wont or Dont?

This worries more than who is insured.

If you havent informed the police because you think they wont want to get involved then the InsCo wont pay no matter who is insured.

ALWAYS tell the police. They may have had loads of complaints from that cinema for all you know, or from cinemas the manager used to work at, or the same cleaning contractor works for, OR somebody after you may have their dosh nicked and having your wallet scanned for prints might help THEM at some future time.

But most importantly the InsCo wont pay out unless you report it to the police.

You're absolutely right, of course. We called the police and the insurance company, and it appears that we are covered. And that, I suppose, is the good news!
