Good financial books

Hi Guys,

Forgive me if this is a common question, I looked on Google Groups, and didn't really find anything relevant, hence my question. Also, I understand I'm asking for "free" advice, but aint that the nature of Usenet?

Anyway, I want to read a good book (or websites) about controlling your finances to work in your favour, based on the following ( I mention this, because I'm not after a book on debt control! )

I have no debts My credit card is always paid off I have a company pension I want to move house I have "some" savings I have no investments (apart from a bloody endowment mortgage!)

Ok, I understand this criteria is perhaps a bit personal, but like I said above, I don't want a book on how to manage debt, rather one that tells me the sensible things to do with the money I do have.

Many thanks for your time, Steve

Try the Motley Fool 10 steps guide, then look for more specific information once you've got an idea what areas interest you - . The link contains suggestions for loads of other books which may or may not be too specific at this stage.

Hi Daytona,

Thanks for the link, the 10steps certainly provide food for thought!

Just one question...is the site independant, or do they tend towards the side of the sponsors? I noticed they're heavily into index trackers, then low and behold, there's a huge advert for Legal and General index trackers.

Thanks again for your time, Steve.

Yes - it's independent, but like any site, they need to get money from somewhere. The adverts are intrusive on the subject homepages, but then I guess they need to be to be effective. Like a number of other contributors, I was deeply pissed off when the added advertising for loans & credit cards to the debt help homepage. It's the best site in the UK for financial information imo, mainly to the forums.

Have a look at some of their discussion boards, particularly the High Yield Portfolio, Value Shares and ISA/PEPs boards for a start.

Trackers don't always get a favourable press.
