Good Time to Buy a Car?

I was going to buy a car soon, I could make do with current 6 year old vehicle indefinitely, it has broke down a couple of times recently and I would like to change it and also get a good deal with the way car prices have declined.

I would normally buy a 6-12 month old supermini car and run it for at least

5 years.

With new cars sold 20% less than last year, is it not the best time to buy this car within the next 6 months as in theory I will have 20% less choice very soon.

Or maybe we can expect some car dealers to go bust shortly and flood the market with used cars bringing prices down even further.

I'm no financial expert but I would keep the car if the faults can be fixed. It depends on your priorities and financial position, of course. I would think that car prices will continue to fall for a while at least. They're not going to be top of many people's shopping list for a while I'd guess.

You may find that some car manufacturers go bust - then you'd get some really cheap cars!
