No. That is, the fraud would be possible, but the outcome wouldnt. AIUI from reading the stories about this case, in Canada, if you innocently buy something that has been stolen, then its still yours. In the UK, it isnt. This is harsh on innocent buyers (cars would be a more common example than houses) but I think all things considered, the UK position seems 'fairer' to me if only because the injured party in Canada may have done nothing at all , whilst you could reasonably argue its the buyer that should make sure they are doing everything properly including getting insurance against being the victim of such a scam.
