Attracted by ICESAVE interest rates I decided to transfer my Northern Rock and Halifax 30 days cash ISAs to them. ICESAVE arrange all the transfer - giving notice to old provider. I completed form on 27 January - and thinking I'd better give plenty of notice time, I specified 15 March as transfer day - 48 days.
I have just checked with Northern Rock and 30 days notice has not been given - they are not aware of transfer.
I spoke to ICE - and they will "push the applications through".
They could not appreciate that if they ask for the transfer on 15 March - then thirty days notice will not have been given.
They did however assure me that if there are any penalties due to their (in)actions then they will pay them.
There must be thousands of people in this situation. It is OK if ICE say to old provider - please make the transfer in thirty days time - rather than on a fixed date. Unfortunately the form I completed asked for a date of transfer rather than "how much notice do you have to give?"
An excellent opportunity for the old provider to mess things up and give ICE a bad reputation.
