Isolated house in middle of new development land

I've read about people refusing to sell their house to deveopers but this is the first time I have seen it in action. I live in South West London and not far from me there is a lot of building being carried out and there is one quite large plot of land that has had all the houses and shops knocked down except one house that is fronting the main rood with nothing left standing on the other three sides. There are windows on three sides. It has a "for sale" sign.

I'm wondering how much they must have been offered to sell to the developers. I'm also wondering what are the requirements for compulsory purchase.

As I said the front of the house is on a main road but one side and the back also have windows. The house is in the middle of the frontage of this plot. It must mess up any attempt to develop the area. Across the road there is being built a hotel, flats and gym as well as restaurants and shops. It has a river and some older shops, restaurants and a pub nearby.

This house must really be messing up the potential of the sight and it looks like the developers are preparing to build.
