Merkel Does Right Thing - Cuts Taxes - Britain Just Borrows Some More

At least this woman has had the courage to do what is IMHO the right thing to help Germany's economy - cutting taxes. Governments don't make money - they mostly just spend it - especially ours. Businesses and individuals make money, so we should give them some incentive. Cowardly Labour daren't even cut spending - somehow they think that cutting spending will damage the economy, though I suppose they may have a point, given that half of Britain seems to work for UK Gov these days...

The big problem is the spread of the tax burden and the incredibly cumbersome welfare system.

The people who SHOULD be paying large amounts of tax often aren't paying any - those who can ill-afford it are hammered.

The welfare system is stuck in the 1950s when "jobs for life" were the norm- what's needed is a system where signing on or off requires a ten minute phone call not a fifty page booklet. Lots of people , been there myself, don't sign off when they probably could because they know they might need to sign on again in a couple of months. The resultant delays are financially crippling. Someone on the dole is offered a few months work. They take it. The job ends or their disability worsens requiring time off. They are left with two to three weeks, sometimes more, with rent and bills to pay and no income at all. Could work, would work, government makes it impossible.

A very effective solution would be to pay EVERYONE income support and housing benefit regardless of income or employment status. Yes, tax would rise, but the addition state benefit would cancel this out.

Government spending wise, I'd abolish the home office , let courts and police entirely handled by local authorities. Some jails would still be needed, these could and should be designated as mental health units and funded by the NHS. No government money should be spent on stopping people doing anything other than crimes with a victim.

I fear we are too late! Didn't you know? The country is bust, broke, bankrupt, no money!! - How do you suppose New Labour can afford to subscribe to their fantasies if they cut taxes!!

What religion ARE you? You keep dodging my question. I'm not even asking which local church you attend , just a rough stab at the denomination. It seems most unlike ANY religion I've heard of, jobos and mormons included.

'A rough stab'?!!!! - I write at length about the Beast of Rome!, refer you to Fox's Book Of Martyrs!, mention that the burning of the Popish traitor, Guy Fawkes, is the highlight of bonfire night! - and you

*still* want me to enlighten you by providing a 'rough stab'!!

I give, I really do!.....

I'm a Bahai. Andy.. (actually, a member of the Reformed Bahai's - who broke away because they considered the original faith to be far too violent and uncharitable)

Quotation: bullet "We desire but the good of the world and happiness of the nations....That all nations should become one in faith and all men as brothers; that the bonds of affection and unity between the sons of men should be strengthened; that diversity of religion should cease, and differences of race be annulled... Yet so it shall be; these fruitless strifes, these ruinous wars shall pass away, and the "Most Great Peace" shall come.... These strifes and this bloodshed and discord must cease, and all men be as one kindred and one family.... Let not a man glory in this, that he loves his country; let him rather glory in this, that he loves his kind." Baha'u'llah, (1890)

Overview:

The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's main religions. It was founded in Iran during the mid 19th century by Siyyid 'Ali-Muhammad (1819-1850 CE). He assumed the title Bab ("the Gate") and prophesized the future arrival of "One greater than Himself."

The asymetrical five pointed star shown above is the official symbol of the Bahá'í Faith; it was taken from an unidentified tablet in the Bab's handwriting. The nine-pointed star symbol is an alternate and commonly used symbol.

One of the Bab's followers, Mirza Husayn-'Ali-i-Nuri (1817-1892), announced that he was the Manifestation predicted by the Bab. He assumed the title Baha'u'llah ("glory of God"). His teachings on world peace, democracy, civil rights, equal rights for women, the acceptance of scientific discoveries, etc. were decades ahead of his time.

Bahá'ís believe in a single God who has repeatedly sent prophets into the world through whom he has revealed the "Word of God." Prophets include Adam, Krishna, Buddha, Yeshua of Nazareth (Jesus), Mohammed, The Bab and Baha'u'llah.

The Bahá'í faith is still looked upon by many Muslims as a breakaway sect of Islam. Bahá'ís are heavily persecuted in some countries, particularly Iran.

Our (UK) businesses and individuals make lots of money but unlike most of mainland Europe they don't exactly pay much in the way of taxes. Philip Green (say) and his ilk who trouser the billions, pay a total of about 14% tax. This is a damned sight less than normal working people and I'd be wanting to -increase- UK tax takes.
