Minimum way to pay back outstanding tax?

I think I need to pay back about £3k to the taxman. I have been out of work for a year, and have just started again. I have been deferring the amount and can't sxtend it any further. Anyway I'd rather not have it go onto my tax code and I get a healthier packat at the end of the month. Is there a way I can say that the minimum I can pay is approx £100 per month? Can they force me to pay a lumpsum (I have a lot of debt from not working the last year and am trying to get back on my feet. If I say I can only afford £100 per month, do they have to take that? Could I set up a direct debit or something? I don't want to try to avoif it, just minimise the pain..

Thanks

Don't you mean maximum and not minimum?

I would list out your debts and what you are currently paying and tell them your income. Set it all out in a letter and see what they say.
