Online Brokers Ample / Halifax

Does anyone have experiences of Ample or Halifax share dealing.

I am being forced out of Selftrade because i don't trade that often. I would prefer Ample but i think it won't be long till they put an admin charge for none trading. Soon i may be forced back to paper certificates, but if the inevitable is going to happen it seems pointless paying the stock transfer charges between brokers for the next few years.

A simple observation,

you get what you pay for! Most trader admin charges are very reasonable - given the service offered. If you trade irregularly, certificated trading is possibly better for you, but where would you store the certificates? At home, thus risking hefty reprint charges if they are burnt, lost, eaten by cat etc; or bank safety deposit (which probably costs more than the admin charge would!)

I would suggest that there are some things worth paying for....

9.00 a quarter, only chargeable if one doesn't complete one deal in that quarter, is hardly a lot to pay given the hassle removed. Well, that's my opinion anyway!

Where do you get this from? I have an account with Selftrade and have not been charged anything, and the online charges pages specifically state that there are no admin charges.

No, but I would be inclined to prefer Halifax (of the two) because they are likely to stay around, whereas the future for AMP is rather murky (similarly for Comdirect, Commerzbank are not in a good financial position and their presence in the UK is hardly a core activity).

I think I'd expect household insurance to cover it in general, but maybe not. In any case, if you wait a few years nearly every company issues new certificates for one reason or another.
