Overpaying interest-only mortgage better than repayment mortgage?

Do you not have a wife/child that could be kidnapped for ransom?

Never have the chance to get an "excellent deal" on something (car, investment, whatever)?

The kidnappers are more likely to pick on someone with an offset mortgage.

I understand that having instant access for this very reason may appeal to you, it does not appeal to me. Having the option to make such a hefty impulse buy is not attractive to me in the least. I am not trying to say that the instant access is a bad thing, there are good and bad points to both. I've got cheaper access to dosh abroad, a lower overdraft rate and much better customer service from a BS than for a bank (compared to the OP). I'm not trying to argue that me accout is better, but it is *better for me*

hardly - my statement starts with "interest-rate aside" - i was hoping it was self explanitory but here goes - interest rate obviously vary from lender to lender and you of course borrow as cheap as you can - but interest rates and offseting savings are not mutually exclusive (you dont have to choose between them, you can have both)

if you're trying to convince me that you can borrow cheaper than you can lend in a sustainable way - then you've hit front page news - because if that were the case i'd borrow a couple million from bank A, lend it to Bank B, and live off the profit (much like they do) - in fact every one would - hence the front page news

Clearly many institutions (such as first direct) do just that.

Utopian dream? Are you on drugs?

Are you on a variable interest rate? If so you have no idea whether it is sustainable or not.
