Question Regarding - Housing Register + Council Tax - Link

I have recently moved into rented accommodation in North London.

I would like to register my name on my local housing register.

My question is, does the council see a link in the housing register and council taxation? In other words, if I register for housing will I then be charged council tax? Is there a link between the two departments?

Many thanks

Why would you want to avoid paying it ? Are you paying it at a different address ?

There are many reasons why the OP might want to not pay (some legitimate, some not) but I think he is making a mistake in believing that the Council have a list of people who are liable. They don't, they have a list of houses that are liable against which they will register an individual who is actually paying.

If the OP is living in a house for which no-one is paying CT it won't make a blind bit of difference whether he puts his name on the housing register as sooner or later they will come and knock on his door to see why no-one has replied to the letters they are sending to the address.
