Are you talking about the same America as I'm thinking of? The one I have in mind has a $1.5 trillion overdraft this year alone.

Maybe they ought to think about putting some more tax on their fuel, or cutting back their fleet to something Somalia would be proud of? ;-)

We don't know that. The only reason we know about Catholics is because aside from their religion, they are integrated in our society and would be more likely to seek psychiatric help or counselling if something had happened. We can't tell what we don't know about, not wishing to sound like that American idiot whose name escapes me.

We know enough about it.

Well they didn't did they, not those that were abused in the 60s and 70s. We're only hearing about them now...

By under 12 months!

and by 1.37/1000

In fact per capita health spending in the US is over 2.5 x the level here and higher than anywhere else in the world.

So why do you assume that health standards in the US are lower than here. How can you be so emphatic that the lower life expectancy and higher infant mortality in the US is down to healthcare.

By the same token the Macau should be well down the league spending a mere $40 pp/yr (fig. for China) . yet life expectancy is 84.36 yr and the highest in the world but infant mortality is lower than either here or the US.

How does that fit into your thesis?

How much does the typical Brit pay for petrol? About 1.16/L if you are lucky.

The question is how is it that the Americans can tax less and accomplish more in this world than this two-bit wannabe country the UK has become.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

By paying zero in benefits and not much more in medical bills.

These two items probably add up to about 35% of European Government spending

Surely when it comes down to economies of scale, a population of 310,000,000 is going to win hands down against a population of 60,000,000?
