Splitting up ...

May 10, 2004 2 Replies

Hi,

My partner and I are to split up and go ou separate ways after nearly

16 years together. We will sell the house and move on.

Question: As we will just sell the house through an estate agent, will we need a solicitor to carry out any work for us? Can anyone advise what costs we will have to pay just to sell the house as we will not be buying within the same transaction if that makes sense.

Many thanks,

Joe.

Try a web search for "fixed fees conveyancing uk". I didn't think it was worth doing myself and used Browns in Aylesbury (miles away from me). The whole transaction was handled very efficiently for around 200, which included the inevitable odds and ends that crop up. Don't pay the estate agents more than 1% commission.

Don't pay estate agents anything, especially if you live in an area that is popular. Simply put a sign up outside your house saying 'FOR SALE' and then the price and your phone number and wait for the phone calls. You may be surprised at the response.

And you have the benfit of avoiding paying those scum estate agents bugger all.
