Tax spreadsheet

I am looking for a standard Excel spreadsheet that will enable me to keep track of my income tax liabilities over the year and will check that I have put enough away.

Self-employed, so it needs to handle the NI% calculation on profits, pension etc.

I want to be able to put in what I have earned in a month plus any odds & sods (e.g. BS interest with basic rate tax deducted) and expenditure (pension) and work out my tax liability.

Does this make sense?

I am looking for an open spreadsheet solution, not compiled, as I want to change it each year as, say, NI or personal allowances change)

I can't find anything on Google. Dozens of US ones, but not for UK

Any suggestions?

Nope. You can't really calculate this on a month by month basis, there are too many variables. You could put one together with *your* particular situation hard-wired into it and that would be a very useful thing for you to do.

What are the rules for the NI% profits, tax and pensions in question?

If you know these, it should be a fairly simple task to build these into an Excel Lookup table or set of formulae. If you'd care to describe them, either mathematically or in plain English, I'm sure someone hereabouts will come up with a simple solution.

I'm surprised that you say this. I would have thought that it would have been something like the PAYE/NI calculations for employees or an automation of the Self Assessment form.

I'll have to do it myself, I think.

Thank you. I'll think I'll have a go myself. Unless someone can come up with one already done.
