For bookkeeping, think: specific data entry tasks and proficiency For accounting, think: some level of policy-making, and decisions

Yes there is. A book-keeper does not have to learn tax law, nor do they have to know how to reduce someone's tax bill to an absolute minimum. That do u? Nigel

A bookkeeper records the daily transactions of the business/venture! An accountant verifies the info posted and makes "book reports" thru the financial statements explaining the transactions are telling you! The easiest way of saying this is, "Bookkeepers make up the books- thru their journal entries. And the accountants make up the book reports!" "That's why they call it bookkeeping!" This is the easiest way I explain it to my clients. If you look at it this way you can see, each has their own job that they need to do to report the profit or loss of any enterprise! Each take time that needs done to eventually give a complete & accurate picture of the business operations! I have been a accountant for 46 yrs, I don't have the time to do all the bookkeeping for each of my clients and then at the end of each period to pepare financial statements that are needed to be prepared for each company! There has to be some point you can do one or the other when you are working with many different accounts and also trying to prepare tax returns during tax season!
