New to booking in the US, better to use Quickbooks or my companies current system?

Hey all,

I am new to all of this, so sorry if this has been asked before! The company I work for is using a CRM/Accounting package called Mamut in the UK. The issue is that I was wanting to use it in the USA but have no idea on booking keeping in the US. This package is tailored for UK accounts and they provided us with a modification for the US in the form of being able to use US currency and a sales tax function for California (where the company is based).

However, I have talked to a few local accountants and none of them want to go near it and all suggest I use Quickbooks as this will same me money (I am assuming this is because they are already familiar with the package).

What do you suggest I do? Are the US accountants so different to the UK that I need to use a US system?

Thanks for your time!

Richard

I'm assuming that your final accounting is done in the UK, so GAAP isn't really of much interest to you, though US taxes are. Accounting practices are not much different between the US and UK, though there are some. You will have to have enough information to file state and federal income tax returns, which should not be a problem, even with Mamut. Sales tax varies trivially for each state that collects it.

If the folks who look at Mamut think it is too difficult to learn, look for different folks, accounting systems really don't have a lot of differences.
