US dollar transfer to US account in the UK

It doesnt work that way, just ask your UK bank what routing number they would use to receive an xfer.

Loads. I make USD transfers into my Barclays Premier (ukp) account all the time.

Thanks for the replies, I'm a bit confused. Does that mean there's no sort code or other UK nastiness to deal with then and it's all done internally within the US with just the routing and account numbers direct to my bank account?

IME you get your bank to tell you all the details which you then pass onto the bank making the xfer, the sort code will be in there somewhere. A standard UK bank doesn't have a routing number, I'm not even sure a US bank does either, but there is no need in any event to find a bank that does, they will pretty much all be able to receive a US dollar money xfer.

If you are going to be receiving and spending dollars then it would seem to make sense to have a dollar account so you dont lose out on the exchange rate every time. For a one off, no point.

The problem I have is that all of the information must go into a web form, and customer services have stated that there is no flexibility at all. They want a routing number (I understand all US banks have this, it's something like a US sort code) and the account number, nothing more, nothing less.

This may turn out to be a one off transfer, or a regular thing, I can't tell yet.

well if you already have a UK bank phone them up and ask them but ISTR having to give several numbers. maybe this bank can only do US xfers, not international ones in which case, as you say, you may need to set up something that looks more like a US bank account.
