Does anyone know if it's possible to get an unsecured US dollar loan as a UK-resident British citizen ?

Depends on the size, I'd guess. I'd suggest Citibank. They don't exactly top the poll ratings for customer service, but they do do a lot of dollar, Euro and other currency banking services in the UK.
