Quote about carbon tax.

This might be an odd question, but maybe someone here can help.

I remember a quote, I think it was in the Garrison, Noreen, and Brewer text on managerial accounting. It was an executive of some company explaining that they've assumed a certain carbon tax will be imposed in the future, and they use that number in their planning. He acknowledges that the number is a guess, and will be wrong, but says that other companies who assume no carbon tax will be more wrong.

But I can't seem to find it. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Greg, The only information I could find about "Carbon tax" is from newspapers in countries like Canada and New Zealand. This tax would appear to be a government surcharge on industries that emit large quantities of carbon dioxide. I also did a quick check on RIA Checkpoint (a research and and analysis service used by tax accountants and attorneys) for anything pertaining to carbon tax in any of our (the U.S.) legislation, rulings, regulation and assorted publications, but I found nothing.

Thanks, John. I actually found the quote on a second pass through that book.

This was an assumption they made for planning ten years down the line-- they expected to be charged for carbon dioxide in the future. The spokesperson said it's not altruism, it's just a cost they expect to incur. And it wouldn't surprise me if they're right. I thought it was a nice example of thinking ahead.
