Decimal point: How can I set to automatically place.... now if I enter 888 the system sets the decimal after the last number and adds 2 zero's. I want to be able to enter 888 and have it automatically show 8.88 Thanks everyone

So you want to have to enter every trailing 0 for even dollar amounts?

Don't think you'll find that option implemented as I suspect it is _extremely_ rare to be asked for...

I handle it by putting in a negative invoice. Not sure if there is a short cut.

I don't think there is a way to automatically put in the decimal. I suspect Duane's reasoning is the reason why.

It is an available option for Peachtree. I have no idea why anyone would use it.

NO I do not wish to enter trailing anything. I just want it to recognise the decimal from what I enter. Examples: enter the numbers

88 result .88; enter the numbers 888 result 8.88; enter the numbers 8888 results in 88.88. Saves a keystroke of having to hit the decimal on every entry.

Yes. I prefer the automatic decimal.

It's not even a question for me, given that the majority of transactions I might enter are not "even dollar" amounts.

It is also available for EasyAcct, Writeup Solution, MSN Money, and Quickbooks. I've never heard of any accounting-related software that

*doesn't* make this an option.

I use it because it makes the process of entering numbers via the keyboard the same as using my calculator -- which I use extensively when performing audits.

I suspect, though, that if the majority of transaction data that I had to enter was in "round numbers" then I wouldn't use the option.

I am used to the automatic decimal from QBooks as well but for some reason I have not been able to find out or get the version of Simply to acknowledge anything automatic. Does it allow for this and if so how do I turn it on????

So what is 100 to be recognized as?

1.00 but as mentioned by another seldom are amounts "round numbers". Therefore if your trying to enter one hundred (100) you would enter 10000 and the net result would be an entry of 100.00

Another nagging issue.... it sure would be nice if the User Guide was more User friendly...but as it does not meet all the needs I must beg your indulgence yet again...

How do I pull up a vendor report that shows all the purchases and payments for a given time period?

I can pull one if there is something outstanding but if it is all paid up and posted it disappears and the report comes up blank.

Then you want to view your Purchases journal.

Click on Vendors, Reports, then Display Purchases Journal.

Select the time period to suit the period you want reported.

So you do want to add the trailing zeros after even dollars as I suggested...

Just checking that's the behavior you really intended... :)

Thank you... I do not see a way however to simply request the information by Vendor name. The sort and filter functions do not specifically mention Vendor name as a choice.... What I am trying to do is pull a report showing Vendor and Customer history for a period of time, both current and past years. Is this possible?

No "smiley" the example could have easily been 2's or any other number. Your question was specific to the entry of 100 and the explanation was how I envision "automatic" decimal placement would handle such an entry... or at least that was my understanding when I responded. Trailing zero's are insignificant numbers that "round off" an entry and are NOT what I wish the program to do. As stated earlier in general business accounting you do not round off entries but put in exact amounts.

What I am hearing through all this is that Simply Accounting will NOT allow automatic decimal placement..... is this correct?
