How to track portfolio investments over time?

Can anyone provide any info regarding how Google finance can be employed to track the investments in a given portfolio as a function of time? It seems as if the only means of doing this currently is a manual cut and paste operation into an Excel spreadsheet.

I suggest you spend $30 on Quicken or Money. Then you can download stock prices dailey or whenever.

Before you spend that money look into the Web Query function in Excel. This little-known function allows you to import stock prices directly into a spreadsheet. It's under Tools > Import External Data.

A quick Google turns up many tutorials on Web Queries, such as this one:
