Suze Orman e-book via Oprah

Orman has come up here a couple of times and I thought this might be of interest.

I've only actually seen her on TV once or twice for a few minutes and I've never read any of her books.

Via this blog:

(I've posted a link or two to MyMoneyBlog before. A young guy is blogging about his financial life and his goal of building up his net worth. He's okay and talks about things like, recently, his decision-making re finding a mortgage, as well as reviews of low-cost online brokers and such)

I thought it was worth sharing that, apparently at Oprah's urging, Suze is making one of her books available temporarily for free as a pdf. I've downloaded a copy and will take a look through at my leisure, if for no other reason than to be able better to respond when folks ask about her advice. Here's the link to Oprah's page, which has the link from which you may download the book. I'd not be posting this before reading the book, except that it appears they are going to be stopping the free downloads at the end of the day today.

As I said, I'm not really familiar with the details of Suze's advice. I've certainly found her tv personality to be, well, kind of annoying. But a free copy of her book is probably worth at least, well, what I paid for it.

Suze's original slant was that psychological hangups interfere with getting rid of debt and investing properly. Know yourself and your financial siutation will improve. Theres no absolute answer for everyone, but it depends on your psychological profile. Its easier for her to explain this when shes does a seminar rather than a call-in show. Her weekly TV call-in show is more run-of-the-mill financial advice then. She's entertaining when she gets perky. Plus we compare ourselves to other people in financial trouble. We either say "how could he be so stupid?" or "I'm only $100 from being in the same trouble as her", etc.

I am guilty of being too focused on the numbers, sometimes ignoring the 'feeling/finding' questions. I was once very critical of her, and it was pointed out to me that it was contrary to my good nature to do so, and that taking a step back, she was more helpful to many than not. I recently remarked on my own blog that she had a show where she was on top of her game, criticizing VAs, pointing out hat Dave Ramsey's 'Debt Snowball' is less than optimum, etc.

For many offering financial advice, the discussion of risk tolerance needs to go beyond any short survey, and there's value to that 'feeling' approach.

Sorry to double-post, but I just got my Suze Orman id theft protection kit off of QVC. I'm normally suspicious of endorsed products (George Forman anyone?) but since I liked her style and am afraid of ID theft I decided to take the plunge. Setup was easy, but I was wondering if anyone else had longer experience with it. The reviews didn't seem very enlightening, sometimes even misinformed.
