where and .how to buy umbrella insurance??

All I know is that i should get enough coverage to cover my assets....but when I went to my auto-insurers web site to see if they offer it, it's not mentioned anywhere on the website.....that's kind of strange, given that AIG (my insurer) is supposed to be the largest ins. co. in the world (??) Typing "umbrella insurance" into google (with all kinds of variations,, like "where to buy....." comes up with no nothing of use. I don't own a house, but i have enough assets to make the ins. worthwhile i think.

I think it's usually bundled with some other kind of insurance either auto or homeowners or renters. See, e.g.,

not necessarily. Just ask your insurance agent.

Mine is from my auto insurer, State Farm. Most large insurers will offer this. Check with your agent.

I think you should have enough insurance to cover likely (or even possible, though unlikely) claims made against you, not just to cover your assets.

example: assets = $1M potential claim = $5 M

if you have only $1M in insurance, they get the insurance and your assets.

Likewise here. State farm supplies my auto, home, and umbrella coverage.

But shopping for an insurance carrier a while back, I noticed some big names didn't offer umbrella coverage, so I eliminated them.
