Can't modify/delete Financial Statements reports

I use Peachtree Accounting 2004 on Windows XP Pro. I recently tried to create a custom Financial Statements report. I saved the new report with a new name (omitting ) and it seemed OK. When I tried to modify the report, it acted like it saved it OK (it asked if I really wanted to overwrite the existing report by the same name & I clicked OK), but the changes weren't there. No error pop-ups appeared either time.

I was able to save the changes using another name, but when I tried to remove the previous version, again it acted like it worked but the report wasn't removed from the list and could still be accessed. Again, no error pop-ups appeared.

This only happens in the Financial Statements reports; I have no trouble editing and deleting custom reports in any other report type.

I asked a colleague to try the same thing on his WinXP/PA2006 and he had the same problem. Another colleague that runs Win2k/PA2004 did NOT have the problem. Has anyone else seen this behavior? On what OS/PA version? Is there a solution to this problem?

Chkdsk and data verification report no problems. Reindexing the report and report data files doesn't help, nor does reinstalling Peachtree. I have full control permissions for my company folder and all its contents. I even tried removing all the .LCK files. Nothing helps. I've searched the web and the Peachtree online support website and found nothing related to this problem.

Please CC me by email in any responses. Thanks for any help.

I've seen this several times and believe it or not it's related to a printer driver. Try setting up an HPII or III as the printer driver (assuming you're using a laser printer)

[ I'm assuming you didn't receive my reply, so I'll try again and post it as well. Sorry if this is a duplicate for you. ]

Diane,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we use an HP4L on a network print server. I set up an HPIII printer, assigning it to the HP4L port, but maybe I don't understand completely what I need to do. Just having the printer set up didn't make any difference, so I printed a financial statement to the HPIII printer. No change, so I made the HPIII the default printer (restarting Peachtree each time). Still no luck.

Since Windows printer drivers are loaded locally no matter how the printer is connected, I don't think creating the HPIII as a local (non-functional) printer will make any difference, but you tell me, exactly what must I do to work around this quirk?

Has this problem been reported to Peachtree? Have they responded?

Sorry for the delay...had a pipe break in my office and I've spent the last several days relocating! Then today...I picked up a virus...it's not been a good week!

If changing the printer driver didn't work, I don't really know what else to try. Do you have the problem with the standard financial statements also or is it just with customized ones?
