Cashier Login w/ Card

Is there a way to configure POS (NOT RMS) to allow a cashier to login with a card? Say we put their employee ID on a bar coded card or something and they can login that way? We want it setup where they login between each transaction, but its going to add quite a bit of time if they have to login each time.

We just want to get around the problem where other employees ring stuff up on the til while someone else is working. Now I realize that if we do it with the users and no passwords, they can just enter someone else's employee ID, that's why I was wondering if we can use a card system of some sort.

I tried to create a user with no password to try it out, but it says it doesnt meet the password requirements.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Try Barcode 128 auto i.e. employee id is 14344 and password is 1234 you barcode will be 14344\0131234. \013 is the code for enter or return. hope this work for you.

Cheers

Well I gave that a shot. It comes back with "scanned data cannot be entered into this field".

Anyother ideas?

Thanks,

You can get programmable swipe cards, say for user 1, pin 2345, this swipe card would have a code 1,2345 the comma meaning enter/return When the login screen is up and the cashier swipes the card, in effect it puts in the user 1 , pin 2345 and logs them in. We have a number of our customers using this feature well.

You need to set your POS to auto prompt the login screen after each sale also.

Does anyone know how to program function keys into a bar code ? What i'm trying to accomplish is Create a customer VIP card with bar code, but instead of having the cashier press F7 to set customer scan the card and than exit i would like this info be encoded in bar code, this way all the cashier has to do is scan the card.
