Details for POS 2009

Hello, Could any Microsoft Dynamics partner contact me to advise regarding POS

2009? I was ready to go ahead with RMS until learning about this imminent update.

Many Thanks, Warren Ashcroft Red Fox UK Limited w.ashcroft [at] redfoxuk [dot] com

POS2009 is expected to be released after July 09, RMS will be continued to be sold for a year afterwards(about). POS2009 in its begining will NOT be multistore capable. Hince RMS continuation.

There are many many many changes from RMS to the new POS2009 Some good some bad.

Can you go over some of the good and bad changes?

Does it finally have the frequently requested (according to MS) floating cashier capability?

Maurice,

Could you please tell us the source of your information? We are an RMS reseller and POS 2009 beta tester, and we have not been notified through any of the usual Microsoft channels of any release date. The general undertstanding after Convergence was that it was slated to be released at the end of the 2nd quarter, but the rumor mill tends to be somewhat unreliable without concrete information from Microsoft. If the date has slipped beyond that, it would be useful information for customers and partners alike.

I was referring to the SOD that came out in November

Jeff,

I'm not saying that Maurice's info is wrong, but I wanted to verify that his dates were coming from Microsoft and not just the rumor mill or from old, possibly out-of-date documents. Release dates are slippery, so any documented sources that can provide realistic dates based on updated info from Microsoft are always appreciated.

In that vein, the SOD document is six months old, Microsoft hasn't published anything on CustomerSource or PartnerSource to update it, and everything I've seen is that POS 2009 will be single-store only (a replacement for POS 2.0 and single-store installs of RMS Store Ops). The multi-store version is still probably a year away, and the SOD stated it would be the second half of 2010, so I'm not holding my breath.

Strictly speaking, I can't talk specifics about what's in POS 2009, only saying that it is a completely different animal from RMS, and there may be a little learning curve, but the benefits and new features for the customer and the VAR are probably worth the effort. Sorry to be so vague.

I have seen and actually played with the newest POS in February in Nuremberg... all I can say is, that it looked very very similar to POS 2.0 and aside from new icons, nothing "new" jumped out at me.

That's not the case: It might have the feel of POS, but cram in the functionality of RMS (back office, item management, customers, etc) add a dash of Microsoft familiarity look-and-feel and you sit with only half of POS 2009!

There will be an official statement of direction on POS2009 from Microsoft at WPC in July, and the release is planned for very shortly after.

True that POS2009 will be released without the HQ component, BUT the expandibility possibilities are huge. So @Warren: For a single store you can plan to roll out POS2009, but for multiple stores, stick with RMS2.0 for now. You should still be supported for about 2 months after the release of the HQ component at least.

I personally can't wait for the release of POS2009:-D

:Have you thougt about switching away from Microsoft Dynamics? I have used it and i find the software, like, so "tacky". It's not graphical user oriented, well it is, but it's what's commonly known as "line-by-line", linear software, meaning its not touch screen friendly.

i like chikpos. ChikPOS has been fantastic. I've had NO problems with it whatsoever. It's a Jeremy Shum Invent so its a quality Aussie product too

- helping the economy. The features are also endless... multi-language support, managerial decision making reports, not locked to hardware, fully multi-touch (like iphone), external monitor support, xbrl compliant, auto-generation of online store, can advertise "related products", corporate chat support, show time/date/news on external screen... it's just top stuff. AND it's Windows 7 compatible!
