Item Descript more than 30 Characters

Jun 16, 2005 2 Replies

You can't extend the base description beyond 30 characters or POS will error out. Run your long descriptions into the Ext. Description field, then turn on the option to print Ext. Description on invoices.

30 characters is plenty for the base description. Go to any big box store and check out their 40 col receipts. You don't need much to identify the product. 30 character base + 30 character subdesc1 + 30 character subdesc2 + 30 character subdesc 3 = 90 characters. Ext. Description appears to be unlimited (!!). The Find option in POS lets you search by any of these fields. If you want to view these columns during lookups buy one of the search add-ins mentioned in other posts on this forum.

You can't do this. You can use the Extended Description or Notes fields to add longer descriptions - the Extended Description can be shown on the transaction screen and receipt.

could Some one please tell me how can I get Item Description more than 30 Characters ...is it too complicated? Could we use Enterprise Manager in SQL server 2000 change the design of item Table ?

Could there be any follow up problems by doing the above

Thanks in advance for your solutions and suggestion
