"item is available on Website" Option

Can anyone shed light on how the "item is available on Website" Option works?

I have two companies running two differenct RMS databases: One biz is web based the other is brick and morter. Some of the products that I sell on the web are sold in the (brick and morter)store, but the inventory is tracked from the web . So I have been ringing up the items on an other POS linked to the web database, but I was wondering if I could ring the items up on the front (brick and morter) DB and then track that and then transfer the quantity sold information to the web db...

Brent, if you're looking to also sell online a solution you should consider is The Kosmos RMS eCommerce integration. In order for your brick and mortar stores inventory to be tracked online you'll need a web service on your shopping cart. Kosmos created one for X-cart and Oscommerce. If you have a yahoo cart or other integration is very easy as long as all your items and pictures are already in your RMS database. All you'll need to do is use the Web Integrator from New West Technologies to grab your RMS inventory marked as "item available on website" and use the scheduler to post it to the shopping cart software.

More information can be found on the site here:

Basically there are four components.

1) RMS store operations 2) Web Integrator, program that runs on your RMS store operations. The WI grabs the RMS database information and via XML and directs it to the website. The web integrator after configured doesn't have to be touched again. 3) The Kosmos Web Service then grabs the inventory changes given from WI and new product items and updates the shopping cart and at the same time the WI is asking for new orders which it downloads to the WI to post to RMS. 4) Shopping cart: X-cart or Oscommerce.

Kosmos chose to create a Web Service for X-cart because it's a very robust cart, has 100's of features and with the purchase of one license you get free upgrades for life. Kosmos will package all software except RMS together as a bundle for purchase too.

Check out the X-Cart feature base here:

Skin templates can be modifed very easily and new ones are available for as cheap as $60 and X-cart itself can easily be designed to look exactly like your current site. There are no design or development limitations with X-cart since the code is all open source and you own it 100%.

If you currently have a site x-cart can be purchased and setup within hours and all your RMS website products can be easily uploaded to the site via the web integrator.

I too am looking for a web solution for my RMS system. I did a lot of research about two months ago, but had to put the project aside, as I had to fast track opening two more stores in my chain which did not go as smoothly as planned.

My big issue is I've been through two RMS Dealers, whom I have had to part company with. There was nothing intrinsically wrong with these resellers until they lost key staff and then everything got really messy. Its with the lawyers right now, so I can really go into any detail.....

I am looking for a replacement Dealer and I want that in place before I do my Web project.

But back to the main point, where I have got in my research is a follows:

1) There are only two real options - Kosmos and NitroSell 2) NitroSell has hundreds of installations and have hundreds of RMS Dealers who resell it. Kosmos don't come anywhere near these numbers. 3) NitroSell provides everything, Kosmos stitches lots of technology together to create the solution. 4) Kosmos is about the same price as NitroSell if your webstore is not successful. NitroSell will charge more if they make you successful, but still end up cheaper as a tiny % of the extra revenues will easily cover these charges. 5) In the beginning I found Kosmos's pitch compelling, but when I looked into their claim about "you own it 100%." it turned out to be nonsense. (Sure you will own it, but your gonna need a degree in programming and deep knowledge of unix (or whatever) before you can do anything with what "you own". 6) NitroSell is upfront about the real costs (which are surprisingly low) but not as low as the "$60 here $60 there" Kosmos line. NitroSell is not just software, its a complete service and you only pay if it works. 7) If I go with NitroSell there are two parties involved - my RMS Dealer and NitroSell. If I go with Kosmos there will be: Kosmos, New West Technology, a Web Design company, X-Cart, OScommerce and the open source community. In fact does my RMS Dealer (my most important partner) get to join the party (will he want to or does he compete with New West - they sell RMS directly right?). Will Microsoft be happy to keep facilitating open source technology companies? What happens when the next version of RMS comes out - who do I call if something goes wrong?

Now all this is research and I'm not ready to kick the project off yet, so I'd be really interested if you get any real experience - please report it here. I'd be most interested if you go with NitroSell, but I'm sure there will be lessons too if you take a chance on Kosmos.

Best of luck.

I'm using RMS 2.0 with Nitrosell. There are a few "undeveloped" things about Nitrosell that are a little limiting but overall I've been very happy with it.

I am online as well as B&M and not having to keep inventory counts in 2 places is HUGE for me and the main reason why I went with Nitrosell.

I'm happy to answer any questi> I too am looking for a web solution for my RMS system. I did a lot of

Nitrosell is the shopping cart. Basically they provide a "sync" tool that takes all of the product data from RMS and compiles on a website in the same dept/category structure. All of the item description, pictures, price, etc is taken from RMS and displayed online. They allow extra HTML content to be added to pages, categories and departments via a web tool.

But yeah, you buy nitrosell and that creates your shopping cart/web store.

I want to reiterate that Kosmos will manage the whole solution so you don't have to. Your best bet is to get pricing and look at who's happy with their solution and who's not. The Web Integrator is seemless and works in the background so you don't have to even touch it. X-cart is a very powerful shopping cart and Oscommerce is another shopping cart you can use so we give you more than one option. All you have to do is make sure each of your products in RMS has a description, image and category associated with it in RMS and the software does all the work for you. If Kosmos had a hosted solution that you had no control over, then sure your integration would be much easier because you wouldn't have any control over your software. Kosmos has dozens of small mom and pop shops and large corporations that absolutely need to have full control over their entire solution keep the coding in house. So, I would ask for pricing, look at some success stories and go from there.

Kosmos has a full staff of professional web designers, web marketing specialists, and custom developers; we do everything from the ground up when it comes to web sites. If you want more control and a very professional site, here are a few examples of the kosmos RMS integration.

Brent, RMS Retailer

I had the same doubts, a year from now... as a Project Manager in my company, I was trying to bring an e-store module for RMS, as some added value to the base product... after the research I did and have seen what is on the market, I went for NitroSell...

Now, we sell NitroSell for the spanish speaking market, it is a complete solution, easy to use (for the clients who don't know too much about web pages and e-commerce), very powerful (for the clients who have more knowledge), very safe and very good documented... gives the possibility to the final client, to go as deep as he wants... And probably the best part is the support we are getting from NitroSell...

I surely do recommend NitroSell Commerce...

I recently took my store online. As a small company with not a lot of funds to spend on my Integration I did a ton of research. This RMS Retailer (NitroSell Resellar) states that there are only two solutions and is obviously very one sided and does not even offer up correct information. Anyways I found a few companies out there that did what I was looking for. The two that stood out the most were Kosmos Central and NitroSell. I did live online demos with both, spoke with each of their sales people, and was presented with proposals from both sides. In the end I went with Kosmos Central. They were less expensive, more hands on with me, and seemed to cater more to my business needs. Their solution uses X-Cart, the Web Integrator, and Kosmos Web Service. They made it very easy for the shopping cart to communicate to my RMS. The design of the store turned out great and was far below the cost of NitroSell. Kosmos offers design, Integration, the Web Integrator, Hosting, Marketing for your company, search engine optimization and much more. They were and still are by far the best solution for me. I purchased their support package for $1275 a year. This includes UNLIMITED support. This means I can call in endless times and they will always help. There has been no hidden fees, which is very important to me. I checked into other companies and their support was around $100 an hour! Unbelieveable. Anyways stick with Kosmos Central. They will walk you through the process and the staff their is very friendly. Good luck to you all as you integrate online.

We are looking to give our site a face lift and are looking for a good designer with a very good professional website portfolio.

The site is

If you have any suggestions please feel free to let us know, the site ideally needs to load less than 80K because we're having another designer implement a flash 3-D he's been working on for 3 weeks now. So lots of tiles and fast loading etc...

We want it to be very professional and here's an example, where they have a good body style etc with images:

formatting link
We currently have a lot of content, but will be reducing them to about a paragraph a section and only one posted article of the month and we can minimize the content for news too. Just Professional, and not as cluttered etc.

Notice there are only 5 menu items and not a dozen like before. I'm assuming the banner will be about the same size and another designer is going to incorporate a 3-D image etc.

Deep blue had some good examples too.

formatting link
The jpg I attached is close to what the banner should look like and please add any good design ideas too.

I like the layout of this site:

formatting link
which seemsto be clean and simple and we'll just have to integrate some images for each section of the home page.

1) News 2) Articles 3) eCommerce 4) Marketing (Google and Yahoo/msn logo's) 5) SEARCH BOX

What are your opinions? Any additional ideas? I designed this site 3 years ago and as you can see we've been hiring others out since then for a reason!

Please provide a portfolio of designs and I'll make my decision from there.

I know what you mean WOW! Logan Welliver the Creative Director at Kosmos did a GREAT JOB at the web design of kosmoscentral.com. I'm not sure where you got your resources from but the above links and verbiage is kind of suspect. WOW, you seem to be very angry, and everyone I've worked with at Kosmos is very friendly and happy to help out. I don't know why you would go through so much trouble to post such stuff either? You've stated you have not done business with Kosmos and still why are you angry? I haven't seen any angry posts by Kosmos, just give them a call and you'll find out. Kosmos currently has three designers in house that I've worked with. They each have specifically created unique works of art for my clients that are very professional. Just go the Kosmos' site and review some of the work Logan's team has created at

I love handing over new clients to Kosmos because I know their web needs will be taken care of, and since I'm not a web guy, why should I have to baby sit or be the middle man? Kosmos does all the work along with integrating the three pieces for their RMS ecommerce integration and I don't have to baby sit at all, it just gets done and customers are super happy. I do get a referral commission, but don't two sides have to win some how? I want a professional company to do the work that knows everything about the web and its continual changes in technology. I can't give a new corporate clients site that's looking to revamp their image to Nitrosell because they are not at the level of Kosmos Central. Each one of my clients has different needs, some want RMS integration with ecommerce and some just want to be found online. Kosmos has done a great job and doing professional web marketing along with custom web development and corporate logo and identity. If you want to look at Kosmos' work or talk to a real human regarding your design just call them. You're not going to get a response from someone in another country and will get answers right away. Kosmos has been straight up with me about costs and will not mislead you about any of their pricing, you'll get it in front of you BLACK and WHITE no hidden fees. I've got clients that are with Nitrosell, but I still have problems quoting out a job because Nitrosell always has a different price structure based on what they think the customer can afford. How is this fair?

I'm still using both services, but to be fair to my customers I'll shoot them pricing from both companies RMS RETAILER you're obviously jaded by losing a couple deals to Kosmos, why else would you post such non sense? I'm assuming the best company won there and you lost some big commissions. I encourage all clients to do their research and come to a logical and happy conclusion. There are really only two strong players out there and how hard is it to investigate both companies' capabilities? Do your research and call a couple of customers regarding their experiences too.

BTW, Microsoft RMS is KING of all POS Systems!

We have a brink-n-mortar sporting goods store and also a webstore for

*most* products and a specialty webstore for Archery only products.

All these feed off the data in RMS.

Nitrosell hosts both our website...the general one and the specialty one.

Both websites feed off the data in ONE RMS database so inventory is real-time for all stores.

I pick which items get listed where.

We are happy.

Launching soon.....www.doggear.com and RVgearstore.com

Missing from nitrosell....

--ability for customers to view past orders and get tracking numbers for their shipments

--understandable pricing scheme

--U.S. Daytime technical support (they are in Ireland so time lag is a problem) for hot issues

--Support for *other* search engines and product lists outside GOGGLE-GOD like shopping.com, Yahoo product lists, and Shopzilla.

I have to say when there was a critical problem with my site being down, I SKYPED an engineer in Ireland in the wee hours of the AM and he answered at his HOUSE. The problem was fixed very soon. :)

Feel free to contact me if you have questions about my experiences.
