Since I do not want to spend 24 hours a day in my store, can I install a copy of RMS on my home computer and take the dongle (along with a backup copy) with me to do updates to the system? Does anything change with regards to hardware as I would not have the receipts printer or associated hardware?
Just want to get the items database finished and complete it in the comforts of my home.

If you want to work on the database locally on your home computer then you do not have to take the dongle home with you. Install the RMS Software on your home computer and make a backup of your database, then restore the backup on your home computer. When you log into POS or Manager you will notice a message that pops up saying something like 'The copy protection device...yadda, yadda, yadda...Do you wish to continue?' press Yes and continue as normal. When you are done, make a backup of the changes bring it back to the store, delete the database and restore the backup from home. Done.

Have you tried Remote Desktop?, you don't have to backup anything, just connect remotely to you business computer and work as normal.

In addition to Rob comments, remember that you must restore your info at the store _before_ anyone uses it at the store again otherwise when you restore it, the restore will overwrite what they have done in the store since your last backup.
I second Carlos' suggestion along with other free and for cost programs. One cool thing is if you use pcAnywhere from Symantec (~$200) and decide to backup and restore your files, leave the copy of the backup on both machines and pcAnywhere will only send home the changes to the database and the reverse when sending back to the store. Makes for faster downloads both ways!
