Code has been posted here describing how to launch a macro from a Custom POS button. In your case, you would need something a little more advanced. You need to launch an application to scan the coupon into. Just scanning the coupon won't do anything, unless you create an item per coupon so that you can use an addItem hook to access your macro launcher.
Ultimately, you can't do this without an add-in.

Glen,
Thanks for your reply!
I read on the net about a metrologic barcode reader code that was effectivly the same as pushing alt+F1 on your keyboard - do you think that might be worth pursuing? I can think of lots of great reasons i might want to trigger a macro from a code on a label/coupon!

That sounds like it would be worth pursuing, especially if there are additional codes for other key combinations.
Glenn Adams Tiber Creek C> Glen,
Do you have any more information or a link to the reader code that emulates a alt+Function key press? This would be great for us to use on discount coupons.
From what i can see you need an extra bit of harware which seems to do the trick...
I havent had time to investgate this fully, but here is the link i found, hope its of some use!
I can def think of lots of uses for barcodes which activate Macros!
