Rolling back would be just dandy if it would work reliably. I've had a few people who don't like IE7 and tried to roll back to IE6. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes there is no end of problems. I have to say I'm glad I didn't switch our card processing over into RMS. It might be more convenient but I don't really like the way it works.

You make very good points. I run a back-up terminal that was left over after the upgrade. Our issue is that we didn't want to have a seperate terminal for every register lane. So far the integrated system has worked without any problems that weren't cause from lack of employee training on our part. More problems happen when they are forced to use the stand alone. I do agree, you must be setup right. That is on your partner and processor.

It was an issue when our broadband goes down, but I got ahold of an old router that supports a backup modem. At the loss of our internet via broadband, it rolls over to the modem. It was only a couple hundred dollars for the router and modem. I bought a classic USR Courier external modem which use to cost $600 and were bulletproof, now you can get them on ebay for $25.

You're blaming the program because someone didn't set it up correctly? Kinda of a bad rap. Its a simple process to confirm its working correctly, run a credit card transaction, close the batch, contact the processor to see if they received the batch, takes maybe 10 minutes, and then check with your bank in a couple of days that your deposit was made. Done. "Thousands of dollars lost", again, that's a human error, not the program's fault.

Except for this new IE7 glitch, the built-in RMS works very well. Takes about 2 seconds for the receipt to start printing and there aren't the errors of transposing numbers, like when entering the sale into a terminal.

The issue of the Internet going down and having a backup plan in place with a dialup connection has been discussed here many times. For the most part. its a non-issue, unless someone hits a telephone pole and you have a telephone/DSL line on that pole. But then, your telephone/terminal won't work either! If you need/want triple redundancies, go with cellular or satellite service like the big guys do.
