I am new to customizing reports and was wondering if there are any tutorials or any information at all that would get me up and running?

Search the newsgroup for things like 'reports' or 'custom reports'. There has been quite a few discussions about how to customize reports already.
Also you may want to check out the Reports Library and the Knowledge Base articles if you have access to Customer Source.
