Physical Inventory - Dual Sort Required!

Try 'copy as table' and paste into Excel. Input your count into the Excel spreadsheet, then save as .csv and import into physical inventory. Excel has the sorting function you want and the import is much quicker than entering manually into RMS.

Imagine if I didn't have these codes linked with size dimensions to differentiate between sizes in the same code when I'm counting a physical inventory. But none of this ultimately answers my original question (which I'll try to explain further below): Every time we do inventory, I get never-ending complaints in regards to the format of the reports. Since the reports are only able to be sorted by one column at a time, there is too much ?flipping? from page to page.

Example ? I run the reports per supplier. So, let?s say we?re doing inventory for Fabri Intimo, which is one of our suppliers. They have a style called the ?Chicago Diamonds Collection?. Under this collection, there is: Code 500 ? Demi Bra Code 400 ? Push-up Bra Code 100 ? Panties Code ? 700 ? Garter Code ? 300 ? Night Gown Now, my only option is to sort by ?Code? (meaning item lookup code). If I don?t sort by code, all the bra sizes for ?500?, let?s say, will be out of order ( correct order is A32, A34, A36, B32, B34, B36, etc.) ? this would make inventory a living hell. But when I sort by lookup code, the girls still have to constantly flip pages to complete one collection (from 500 to

The theoretical solution to this is simple: sort by the ?Description? column and THEN by ?Item Lookup Code?. But the damn program won?t allow dual sort orders!!!! Is there a way to fix this!!!!??

You can do this as long as you don't resort the report after it is generated.

Go to your reports directory make a copy of the file Items - Physical Inventory Report (Detailed).qrp (make sure you make a copy of any default file before you change it!) right click the original reprot and go to properties uncheck the Read Only flag and click OK open the file in a text editor (Notepad) Fid the line that says: SortOrder = "" Cange it to: SortOrder = "item.description, item.itemlookupcode" Save the file Reopen SO Manager print a Physical Inventory - it should be sorted by description then lookupcode.

If you click any of the column headers, it's going to resort by that single column. Not sure what will happen if you show/hide or rearrange items. If you set a group, it will also override the sort order.

Tom's Excel solution has the additional benefit of allowing you to import the file, but be careful when you sort - it's possible to only sort a single column instead of the entire dataset.

It will work. I do it all the time.

To 'copy as table' you'll need to print the Physical Inventory worksheet. This will generate a Physical Inventory Count Sheet report that you can copy.

It looks to me like RMS remembers what headers were clicked and keeps the sort trail. This would work to sort three deep also. You just need to click the column headers in the proper order with the first (top) sort being the last column header selected and so-forth.
