POS crashes instantly

I just reveived my 30 day trial and just got done going through the lengthy install and setup process. When I try to lauch the POS it instantly crashes. I can get past the login screen...and then the registration screen. But after that I get:

"An unrecoverable error occurred while attempting to start Point of Sale. The application must exit."

Not quite sure what to due as we are just testing to test our hardware out with the POS for a new store.

Any suggestions as I can't seem to find much help elsewhere. Thanks!

Have you looked in the Event Viewer (on XP/Vista: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer) to see if there are any useful logged events related to the crash?

I cleared out the log and launched the app and this is the error in the Event Viewer:

Source: Microsoft.Rms.Host.HostApplicationContext.Main Process ID: 2304 Unexpected Error. Application must exit System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'SORulesStateInfo' threw an exception. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00000514-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4} failed due to the following error: 80040154.

Hope that helps.

That's a nasty one. The error is indicating that a component is failing to load. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you why. Here are the usual suspects:

- the component isn't installed or it's not installed completely

- the component is corrupt

- the component requires permissions that it doesn't have

- the component is competing with or being stomped on by some other process or component

An easy first step is to uninstall and reinstall the software. Make sure that the account used has administrative priveleges. Turn off all virus protection software during the install and turn off any other utilities or apps that simply don't have to be running. It could just be that during the first install something prevented the components from registering correctly.

Also, if you aren't already, try runn> I cleared out the log and launched the app and this is the error in the Event > Viewer:

No such luck.

System is as clean as an XP system can be. No virus protection or any other software running the background. I am running as an admin user and just tried a complete reinstall.

Any other suggestions? I may have to head back towards Quickbooks. :/

The GUID indicates that this is coming from ADO. Can you check the version of this file "Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll"?

Matt,

This seems to be the correct version. This is a MDAC system file, which is usually updated in Windows Service Packs or SQL Server. It is not installed directly by the POS installer.

Depending on your OS, you may need to install the latest version of MDAC at:

You should also ensure that you have installed the latest Windows service pack.

Please let me know if this helps.

Matt,

One more thing to try:

1) Click Start -> Run then type the following and click OK:

regsvr32 /u "Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll"

2) Again, click Start -> Run then type the following and click OK:

regsvr32 "Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll"

You may need to adjust the path based on where this file is on your system.

Well now the error does not pop up...but the Splashscreen just disappears and nothing happens.

I cleared out the event log and upon crash it is filled with a bunch of stuff.

The first errors is:

Open RsRead System.Runtime.InteropServies.COMException

Class not registered
