SQL Error 2147217871

A customer of ours running RMS 1.3.1007 has received the following error: ERROR 2147217871 TIMEOUT EXPIRED (SOURCE MICROSOFT OLE DB PROVIDER FOR SQL SERVER).

It then goes on to say

(SQL STATE HYT00 NATIVE ERROR 0) NO HELP FILE AVAILABLE.

The transaction closes and RMS exits. On checking we find that the CUSTOMER's record has not been updated to reflect TOTALVISITS or TOTALSALES. Additionally, TENDERTOTALS, TENDERENTRY, and BATCH do not reflect the transaction. There's no receipt in the JOURNAL.

Its a HQ setup with Store Ops and they use an offline database.

Any ideas?
