Store Operations Business Rules Error - A server failure occurred while attempting to read Cashier

That really has nothing to do with the cashier - you've just lost connection to the SQL Server for some reason. Either the backoffice or register may have gone into power save mode. The router may have been reset. You may have had a power outage. If this only happens after a period of inactivity, I'd look at power settings first - something is probably going to sleep.

I am having a problem with POS registers recently. Since the last 3 days, when the cashiers log-in to the POS in the morning, the system does not allow them entry (after a minute freeze) and displays the following error message:

Store Operations Business Rules

! Error # -2147217871 Timeout expired (Source: Microsoft OLE DP Provide for SQL Server) (Native Error:0) No Help File Available UPDATECashier SET Failed logon Attempts=0 WHERE Number =?

When I click on ¡®OK¡¯ then I get the following message:

X Server Failure 135 A server failure occurred while attempting to read Cashier Error # -2147217871 (Source: Microsoft OLE DP Provide for SQL Server) (Native Error:0) No Help File Available UPDATECashier SET Failed logon Attempts=0 WHERE Number =?

The only way I could get the system to work again is to restart the backoffice in the morning. Everything is ok then. The same problem re-occurs again the following morning!

I can¡¯t figure out why this problem is occurring all of a sudden. Can anyone tell what to do?

TIA

Problem is fixed now. It turns out that the Database Log file grew to 38 Gbyte!!! And we shrunk it down again.

Two possibilities:

1) You didn't use the default settings in Administrator when you setup MSDE for RMS. 2) You have the full version of SQL and have the incorrect settings.

In either case you need to fix the settings or this problem will return.
